The Banyan Ball - Saturday, December 9th, 2006 @ 6:30pm The Indo-US Chamber of Commerce is proud to present The Banyan Ball - the 6th Annual Social event for the Chamber. The Banyan Tree is the national tree of India and it symbolizes a traditional meeting place for village representatives and communities to meet and discuss issues of the day. Therefore, this premier event is also symbolic for the Tampa Bay business community, where professionals and entrepreneurs can meet, socialize, network, make new friends and meet old friends under the canopy provided by Ybor City Museum
The Banyan Ball is a 'Black Tie and Cocktail Dress' event - cultural dress is acceptable.

Nanotechnology and Biomedicine
Physicist and physician, Anita Goel, MD, PhD was recently named one of the world's 'top 35 science and technology innovators under the age of 35' by MIT's Technology Review Magazine. Dr. Goel holds both a PhD in Physics from Harvard University and an MD from the Harvard-MIT Joint Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST).
Dr. Goel is also the Founder, President, and CEO of Nanobiosym, Inc. Her work at Nanobiosym has been recognized by a number of prestigious funding awards from the United States Department of Defense and DARPA and US Dept of Energy. The recipient of numerous honors and an esteemed speaker at major international conferences, Dr. Anita Goel has quickly emerged as a leading researcher in the field of nanobiophysics and nanobiotechnology.
She is a Fellow of the World Technology Network, a Fellow-at-Large of the Santa Fe Institute, and an Associate of the Harvard Physics Department. She serves as a Trustee and Scientific Advisor to India-Nano, an organization devoted to bridging breakthrough advances in nanotechnology with the burgeoning Indian nanotech sector.
While an undergraduate at Stanford University, Dr. Goel envisioned a human bridge between the two largest democracies in the world: the U.S. and India. Inspired by this vision, Dr. Goel founded SETU (Sanskrit for 'bridge'), an international conference and think tank comprised of world leaders from academic, business, political, and humanitarian sectors dedicated to bridging these two democracies.
